An NYPD (New York Police) officer was hospitalized early Saturday after being beaten up by a gang of men while jogging in plain clothes during his dinner break in Long Island City.
The officer, whose name has not been released, was in stable condition after Friday night’s attack by a group of six to nine unidentified men, police said. Emergency responders were alerted by a Good Samaritan emergency call following the attack on 51st Street and Vernon Boulevard in Long Island City, Queens.
The policeman was conscious and suffered injuries to his head, throat, shoulder and knee. There have been several reports of a similar group of assaults on people in the area, police said. The police have opened an investigation and are trying to get hold of the attackers.
