In the course of a digital budget meeting, the Darmstadt coalition of the Greens and CDU dealt with the budget for 2021.
As the parliamentary groups of the Greens and CDU report, the most important result of the retreat is the mandate “Top priority for climate protection”. According to the coalition, the city is providing 14 million euros for the energy-efficient renovation of city buildings and one million euros for the implementation of the “immediate climate protection program”.
A staff unit with four additional positions is to be set up in the Environment Department to implement and coordinate the measures. This “task force” is intended to help achieve the goal of climate neutrality by 2035. In the social area and in education, the coalition does not want to save even in times of the corona pandemic. The coalition expects a deficit of “well over 60 million euros” for 2021.
The crisis-related lower allocations from the state of Hesse from the municipal financial equalization system are largely responsible for the slump.
On Thursday, December 3rd, the city council will debate the budget in the Darmstadtium.
