Former vice president Adhin released – Suriname Herald

Examining Judge (RC) Siegline Wijnhard has tested the detention of former Vice President Ashwin Adhin as unlawful. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) is appealing against this, so that he is detained for another three days. With the appeal by the Public Prosecution Service, the Court of Justice must deal with the case within three days.

The RC has tested the detention of suspects Vijendra R. and Amin D. as lawful. They remain as suspects. Adhin, Vijendra R., Amin D. and Ramon K., have previously been arrested and detained on suspicion of destruction and / or disabling and misappropriation of state property belonging to the Cabinet of the Vice President. Ramon K. has since been released.

The NDP faction has asked in the National Assembly (DNA) about the arrest of Adhin to be informed in detail by the Public Prosecution Service and the government. This is to prevent arbitrariness from being applied. The NDP emphasizes that crimes committed by (former) office holders, if the Public Prosecution Service wants to continue prosecution, must first come to parliament, after which it will pass judgment.
