NTT makes a restart if Team Qhubeka Assos, Campenaerts stays | cycling

At the end of September, the Japanese telecom company NTT made it leave cycling after 2020. Uncertain times began for the team of Victor Campenaerts, one of the few riders who was still under contract before 2021.

Team manager Bjarne Riis failed to find a new sponsor and in the meantime left the ship. But today founder Douglas Ryder came with good news. “I am very happy to have the support of some incredible people and partners. Including ASSOS, which will be the title sponsor.”

Ryder is happy to continue his cycling project in Africa. Qhubeka is the South African charity that promotes cycling and cycling in the African continent and distributes bicycles to underprivileged people, among other things.

NTT Pro Cycling used to be called Team Dimension Data (2016-2019) and before that MTN-Qhubeka. The team has had a license for the WorldTour since 2016, but it remains to be seen what level the South Africans will reach in 2021. Ryder says he wants to be a top team. (read on under tweet)

In a video with Johan Museeuw – on the road together on Flemish roads – Victor Campenaerts announced on his YouTube channel that he will remain with the team. Nothing is known yet about other riders in the team for 2021.

In the video, Campenaerts also announced that Museeuw will be his mentor from next season. “I can give you some tips and tricks”, says the 1996 world champion, who also won the Tour 3 times and Paris-Roubaix 3 times.
