On the coast of Kurzeme wind gusts have intensified to 28 m / s – in Latvia

On Thursday evening, western wind gusts of up to 27 meters per second (m / s) were registered in Liepāja and Ventspils due to the cold atmosphere front, and up to 28.5 m / s in Liepāja port, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center.

The strong wind is short-lived and associated with rain clouds. The zone of strong wind and precipitation moves from the west of the country to the east. Later in the evening and at night, south-western and western wind gusts of up to 16-21 m / s are expected in most of Latvia, weather forecasters predict.

In addition to rain, hail and thunder are also possible, there will also be snow on Friday, and in some places – mainly in Vidzeme – intense snowfall is expected for a while.

It has already been reported that at night on Friday in Latvia, precipitation is expected, clouds will dissipate and the air temperature will drop, therefore icing is possible on the roads in the second half of the night and in the morning.

On Friday, westerly, southwesterly winds will blow at a speed of up to 10-15 m / s, on the coast – up to 20 m / s.
