Rewe boss criticizes state aid for Tui and FTI: “grossly unfair”

The head of the retail group Rewe, to which DER Touristik also belongs, sees the state aid for the travel providers Tui and FTI as critical. “I very much hope that our competitors will fully repay the aid they have received after the crisis and that the state will not turn a blind eye,” said Rewe-Lenker Lionel souque (49) in an interview with manager magazin.

He was “very much in favor”, according to Souque, “that one helps to secure as many jobs as possible”. Nevertheless, one could be surprised “that the state is supporting two companies with Tui and FTI which, strictly speaking, are not German companies”. Tui is at home on the London Stock Exchange and has a Russian billionaire as an anchor shareholder. The majority of FTI is now owned by an Egyptian businessman. Behind DER Touristik, on the other hand, are “1,800 medium-sized entrepreneurs from Germany”, Souque emphasized to mm. Should the competitors not have to repay the state aid in full, that would be “grossly unfair” in the opinion of the Rewe boss.
