The president of the CHS, Mario Urrea has indicated, in a telematic press conference, that the restriction to traditional irrigation be lifted, once the reserves reach almost 50 percent of the capacity of the reservoirs.
The president of the Segura Confederation has provided information to the Governing Board of the basin body on the files opened by unregistered irrigation in Campo de Cartagena. Urrea spoke of a hundred open files, 64 of which are already final. They cover 1,100 hectares and almost 50% of them are no longer irrigated.
But nevertheless, the Minister of Agriculture, Antonio Luengo has reported that of the 64 files sent by the CHS, there are 50 within the scope of the decree law for the comprehensive protection of the Mar Menor and the other 14 not, so the CHS should be current in the latter. In this sense, it has announced that next week the files for restitution of these lands to their original state will begin, for which the legislation requires the owner to present a performance report in the following two months.
Another issue where they do not agree is on the use of the pumping station of the Rambla del Albujón, since Urrea has recalled that it is only in operation when irrigators need water, while Luengo has asked that its use be continuous.
Mario Urrea has said that it remains for an extraordinary Governing Board in July, the statement of the evolution of the chemical state of the aquifer del Campo de Cartagena, together with a package of precautionary measures to be adopted immediately in an action that will give effective results within a year.
Urrea has asked for patience with the Zero Dumping Plan to the Mar Menor. Remember that it has a horizon of actions until 2027 and also that 18 of the 21 actions planned, which represent more than two thirds of the total budgeted, correspond to the Autonomous Community alone or with other agents.
