In a response, Minister of Health Frank Vandenbroucke (SP.A) reminds that the hospitals received an advance of 2 billion euros just to absorb this financial impact. Last Thursday, the Royal Decree was published that converts this advance into guarantees and that clarifies which financial interventions hospitals can count on to get through this period.
In the first place, it concerns the additional costs due to COVID-19. Secondly, the KB guarantees the hospitals the income they have missed – including from the fees of the specialists – and that is necessary to ensure the continuity of the hospital. Finally, the additional activities of specialists in the context of COVID-19 will also be reimbursed, the SP.A minister explains.
He announced two more initiatives for the short term. For example, hospitals will be able to count on missed patient contributions on the one hand and lost income from uninsured patients on the other. Finally, there will also be a guarantee for the second wave that the specialists, including the doctors-specialists in training, will be compensated for their covid availability.
