When, half a century ago, Edward Hulewicz sang “For the health of the ladies” for the first time, no one thought that the then young and extremely beautiful singer would become … an icon of Polish feast song. Today his hit is sung by Zenek Martyniuk. He himself is facing monstrous loneliness.

50 years have passed since Edward Hulewicz left the band Kanon Rytm and began his solo career. His greatest hit – “For the health of the ladies” – reigned then at all dances, and he became recognizable overnight.
He had everything to become an idol of young people – a great voice, stunning beauty and charisma, which is “something” that made it impossible to take your eyes off him when he stood on stage.
For years, however, he was classified as a … festive singer, performer of light, easy and pleasant pieces.
It was only recently that he admitted that the patch that had been affixed to him did not match his character at all and that it disturbed him greatly. During his studies he was a great lover of sung poetry, he loved jazz, and he saw himself on the stage as … a rockman!
“I took my first steps in the profession in rock bands Tarpany and Heliosi. For many years I was a rocker” – he says, recalling his youth.
