KONTAN.CO.ID – JAKARTA. Not wanting to be outdone by its rivals, Apple is now said to be getting closer to producing folding iPhones. Rumors about the iPhone with this folding screen have actually been circulating for a long time, at least after Samsung released the Galaxy Fold last year.
In the past year, Apple has even registered several patents for their own folding screen design and technology.
Latest report from Economic Daily mentioned that Apple is sending samples of foldable iPhones from Chinese suppliers including Foxconn and New Nikko.
For now, Apple is reportedly evaluating whether to use an OLED or microLED display for their foldable iPhone device.
The selection of the display panel is indeed the key to the success of this technology. OLED panels tend to be more flexible. On the other hand, microLED is a new display technology that offers higher brightness, saturation and power efficiency.

Until the display panel is determined, Apple is said to be entering the testing phase of other supporting components such as the hinge which is also very vulnerable.
GSM Arena reported that Samsung will be the supplier of the screen, while the hinge components will mostly come from New Nikko and will be assembled by Foxconn.
The hinge component will later be tested by folding more than 100,000 times by New Nikko, a manufacturer who is also working with Apple to produce hinges for the MacBook.
Finally, Apple is reportedly targeting a launch in September 2022 of a new foldable iPhone. Keep in mind, this news is still in the form of rumors gathered by several parties from a number of Apple’s production chains. Let’s just wait for further news.
