A modified version of the first generation Dacia Logan should now be produced in Iran to higher standards than under Renault’s previous supervision.

The automotive markets in the Middle East are relatively specific, but this is especially true for Iran. Sales here have long been dominated by PSA and Renault cars, which have also built their own infrastructure. However, for fear of American sanctions, they gradually left the country a few years ago.
Their Iranian trading partners thus had to start thinking of ways to meet market demand in a country with a population of over 83 million. And they did their job – they resumed the production of established models on their own and without much cooperation with European carmakers.

For example, the carmaker IKCO (Iran Khodoro Company), which was still producing its own version of the old Peugeot 405 this year, boasted last year of the production of the Peugeot 301, in which the PSA Group no longer intervenes. And now with a similar report came the second largest Iranian brand SAIPA, which plans to start production of a modified Iranian version of the first generation Dacia Logan. At the same time, it ceased production in Iran with the departure of Renault about two years ago.
According to Iranian state television Press TV, Javad Soleimani, CEO of SAIPA, was to announce that the company had managed to acquire over 85 percent of the parts and know-how needed to resume production of the car sold in the Iranian market by 2018 under the names Renault L90, Renault Tondar 90 or Renault Pars Tondar. At the same time, their common basis has always been the modified first generation of Logan.

„When Renault left Iran due to sanctions, we at SAIPA set about planning production of the L90 within 18 months,“IRIB News quotes Soleimani’s statement. The carmaker plans to use plants built in the country, including a plant for the production of engines and gearboxes, and several series of imported parts.
In an interview, Soleimani was to mention, among other things, that the new local version of Logan will be manufactured to higher standards than those set in the production of the previous model under Renault’s supervision. In addition to the old-new Logan, SAIPA will continue to offer several models from local and Chinese production under its brand.
