Hungary and Poland veto the EU budget. Due to a condition with the rule of law

Budapest also wants to veto the economic recovery fund in connection with the covidu-19 pandemic. Orbán’s government is annoyed by the intention to condition the disbursement of money from European funds by respecting the principles of the rule of law.

The representatives of the member states and the European Parliament agreed on the condition of linking the drawing of EU money and respecting the rule of law. In the future, according to them, the disbursement of money from EU funds should be linked to respect for democratic principles, such as the independence of the judiciary or freedom of speech.

Soros’ order

According to the Hungarian government party Fidesz, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Brussels is fulfilling the order of the American billionaire George Soros. “Brussels wants to use this condition to blackmail and put pressure on Hungary and states that reject migration, protect their borders, their culture and their national sovereignty,” Fidesz said in a statement.

According to Orbán’s party, Brussels is using all its tools to replace the national government in Hungary with a left-wing pro-immigration government. “It is a shame that in the midst of a coronavirus pandemic and Islamic attacks, Brussels is dealing with political blackmail instead of helping Member States defend,” Fidesz added.

Hungarian Justice Minister Judit Varg has warned that it is forcing the Hungarian government to reject the EU budget and a fund to help economies affected by coronavirus restrictions.

“Their payments are linked to political and ideological conditions,” Vargová emphasized. According to the minister, the “saving” states, led by Sweden and the Netherlands, have deliberately created a situation so that Hungary and Poland can only reject the proposal.

Poland, through Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, sent a similar letter to key European Union officials four days ago. In it, the Prime Minister warns that his country will block the seven-year budget if the disbursement of money from EU funds is conditioned by the rule of law.
