JAKARTA, investor.id – Globally, there are about 8% of Covid-19 cases accompanied by diabetes, with a mortality rate that is three times that of patients in general. Meanwhile, data from the Indonesian Ministry of Health shows that diabetes is the second highest comorbid after hypertension in the Covid-19 case in Indonesia, which can lead to death for several cases that are already fatal.
For this reason, regular diabetes management is needed during a pandemic. However, with these conditions diabetes management becomes a challenge in itself. One solution is telemedicine.
Danu Wicaksana, Managing Director of Good Doctor Technology Indonesia, said that seeing this, his party is working with the Indonesian Endocrinology Association (Perkeni) to launch the ‘Never Give Up, Blood Sugar Alert’ program. The program is a consultation service on diabetes management to the general public and also diabetes education through the Good Doctor service platform and social media. Through this program, the public can now access diabetes management consulting services from Perkeni specialist doctors through the Good Doctor platform on GrabHealth.
“It is hoped that the public can implement diabetes checks and a diabetes management system on a regular basis to maintain their health condition, especially in the challenging situation of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said on the sidelines of a Good Doctor visual gathering, Monday (16/11).
The Chairman of Perkeni Prof. DR Dr. Ketut Suastika SpPD (KEMD) said that his party appreciated the cooperation and assistance built together with Good Doctor in fighting diabetes in Indonesia, especially during the pandemic period. We invite the public to be able to optimize the telemedicine consultation platform to get guidance or recommendations about diabetes from credible Internal Medicine Specialists and Endocrinologists. Perkeni itself has prepared guidelines for handling Diabetes Mellitus in the era of the Covid-19 Pandemic for diabetes patients and also for medical personnel, in order to provide the best service to patients.
“This guideline will also be applied by the Perkeni team of doctors who are partners with specialists at Good Doctor in order to provide medical services according to standards,” explained Prof. Suastika.
Meanwhile, dr. Adhiatma Gunawan, Head of Medical Management for Good Doctor Technology Indonesia explained that Good Doctor, as an integrated health online platform, ensures that everyone can get health consultations, as well as accurate information directly from trusted doctor partners. For this reason, Good Doctor’s partner doctors have received special education on diabetes from endocrinologists and will continue to receive regular education from Perkeni Endocrinologists. For this reason, his party invites the public, especially those who need diabetes-related consultations to consult with partner doctors, Internal Medicine Specialists and Endocrinologists.
“We hope that this service can be an additional solution for those who suffer from diabetes, especially during this pandemic,” concluded Dr. Adhiatma.
