What’s up? The Pentagon Calls All U.S. Army Back Home

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Head of the Pentagon or Minister of Defense United States of America (USA) Christopher Charles Miller calls all the soldiers back home. He even said that the country was tired of fighting.

This was revealed in his first message to US military forces last weekend. Miller said it was time to end America’s conflict in the Middle East.

“Indeed, this fight is long, our sacrifices are enormous, and many are tired of war, I am one of them, but this is a critical phase in which we shift our efforts from leadership to support roles,” Miller wrote in a message to Department of Defense employees. quoted Monday (16/11/2020).

Furthermore, Miller wrote that the US does not contain people who fight continuously.

“It is the antithesis of everything we fought for that our ancestors fought for. All wars must end,” he added, writing that the US was on the brink of defeating Al Qaeda and its associates.

“We face challenges; we give our all. Now, time to go home.”

Miller just replaced Mark Esper since last week. President Donald Trump previously dismissed Esper because he had different views.

Meanwhile, according to the Department of Defense report, the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria have cost US taxpayers more than US $ 1.57 trillion since September 11, 2001.

The war in Afghanistan, which has continued to be America’s longest-running conflict, began 19 years ago and has cost US taxpayers US $ 193 billion.

Trump, who campaigned in 2016 to end the war in the Middle East, tweeted last October to announce that American troops currently serving in Afghanistan would return before Christmas.

At the time, it was unclear whether Trump gave the order via tweet or repeated a long-held campaign promise to attract voters ahead of the US presidential election.

Early in 2020, the US brokered a peace deal with the Taliban that would usher in a permanent ceasefire and reduce the US military footprint from around 13,000 to 8,600 by mid-July.

Meanwhile in May 2021, all foreign troops will leave the war-torn country. Trump has previously directed the Pentagon to reduce US combat power in conflict zones.

In 2018, Trump tweeted that the US would pull troops out of Syria, a surprise move that led to the resignation of Secretary of Defense James Mattis. Trump later reversed his decision to withdraw from Syria.

In May, Trump complained on Twitter that America’s role in Afghanistan had been reduced to a “police force” and not a “fighting force”. When asked about the tweet, Trump said the US could return to Afghanistan if needed.
