For the time being, De Boer has opted for Luuk de Jong in the forward and Depay in a free role on the left. “Depay didn’t have to be on the left much, because Owen Wijndal (left back, ed.) Was already playing very deep,” says Arno Vermeulen. Van Hooijdonk agrees: “It’s no problem on the left.”
‘Wijnaldum should always be there’
Georginio Wijnaldum returned against Bosnia to the place he had under Koeman, that of attacking midfielder. He ended his performance with two goals. In the previous two games against Spain and Italy, Donny van de Beek acted as an offensive midfielder.
“I prefer to see Wijnaldum in this position,” says Janssen. “This is where its quality lies.”
Vermeulen: “He always delivers in this position. If we all have to help De Boer a bit, Wijnaldum should always be there. Period.”
