(dpa / sid). Trembling, but won: Master Alba Berlin has won the top game in the basketball league at EWE Baskets Oldenburg. The defending champion won last year’s playoff semi-finalist on Sunday evening despite a clear lead in the end with 89:86 (55:38) and also won the second game of the season.
The Euroleague club from Berlin was wide awake at the beginning, pulled away from the well-rested Baskets after ten minutes to 33:19 and extended their lead to 17 points until the break. But the hosts came out of the cabin much more aggressively after the break and reduced to twelve points at the end of the third quarter. In an exciting final round, the Lower Saxony equalized two minutes before the end to 82:82, but in the final phase the capital city club was nervous. Alba professional Markus Eriksson was the best shooter with 19 points.
FC Bayern Munich, on the other hand, slept through the first quarter at Fraport Frankfurt (11:19), but after the break came with power and a strong national player Paul Zipser (24 points) to a 75:52 victory, which was safe in the end. Zipser had also scored 20 points against Valencia and thus played a key role in the sixth victory in the eighth game of the premier class.
“These Sunday games will always be the same,” said Bayern coach Andrea Trincheri after the second win of the season. “The opposition can prepare for us for a week while we come out of a game on Friday night. We were patient and defended much better in the second half.”
The MHP Giants Ludwigsburg are also still undefeated. At the Telekom Baskets Bonn, coach John Patrick’s team won just under 86:82. Elias Harris trumped the guests with 26 points. As the fourth team, ratiopharm Ulm currently has two victories. Already on Saturday the team of coach Jaka Lakovic clearly defeated Bayreuth with 104: 76.
The MBC Weißenfels and the Hakro Merlins Crailsheim completed their first season appearance last week after a forced Corona break. Crailsheim prevailed in the away game 84:66 (44:33). The second match on Saturday evening won the BG Göttingen against the Basketball Löwen Braunschweig 79:76 (40:45).
