From 1 December you will have to pay to park your car at the Gedempte Zuiderdokken and the Scheldekaaien in Antwerp South. Recently placed information boards indicate this. The new Steendok underground car park will open at the head of the Zuiderdokken at the beginning of December.

The entire South thus becomes a red parking zone: the most expensive parking rate, which applies in the entire area between Leien and Kaaien. Visitors can park above ground for a maximum of three hours and pay 10 euros for that maximum duration. Residents with a resident card can still park above ground for free. “But the parking space will in any case become more limited,” says ships from Mobility Koen Kennis (N-VA). “Soon there will be the construction site of the second underground car park Kooldok and part of the square will be provided as a bus parking.”
The construction of the new park on the Gedempte Zuiderdokken will start in eighteen months and the largest above-ground car park in the city will be a thing of the past.
Traders and catering operators are saddened by the farewell to free parking on the square. “Many visitors who came to visit the city parked their car here and sought out a restaurant here in the evening before leaving. That will be over now, ”fears Franky Verlackt, of Grand Café Modeste.
