The information about the actor’s death was confirmed by the Union of Polish Stage Artists. According to the message that appeared on Facebook, Witold Sadowy died on November 15.
“He left today Witold Sadowy – actor, chronicler of artistic life. All his life he was associated with Warsaw theaters: first as an actor of Teatr Rozmaitości, Polski, Comedy, Nowy, Ateneum, or Klasyczny, and for years as a viewer, reviewer, enthusiast and friend full of kindness to actors and creators“- we read in the entry.
Later in the Facebook message, the friends said goodbye to the actor with the words:

Witold Sadowy was born on January 7, 1920 in Warsaw. He attended a primary school for boys, where he made his debut as an actor in the play “A Doll of Saxon Porcelain”. He played … an Italian girl from Milan.
Soon after, as a student of one of the Warsaw schools, Witold Sadowy was invited to the Royal Theater in Łazienki Park to watch the fairy tale “Behind seven mountains, beyond seven rivers”. Just before the performance starts, the marshal will appear in the room Jozef Pilsudskiwho gave the teenagers sweets.

He often organized home theaters, and when he was in high school, secretly from his parents, he enrolled in Hanna Ossoria’s private film and theater school. Witold Sadowy made his debut as Floris in the play “Mayor of Stylmondu”. In later years, he played in many Warsaw theaters, such as Polski, Nowy, Ateneum, Studio and Klasyczny. He appeared on stage for the last time in 1989, playing the role of Field Marshal in “A branch of rosemary”.
In the 1980s, Witold Sadowy started working as a theater columnist. His texts have been published in the pages of “Życie Warszawy”, “Życie Codzienny”, “Express Wieczorny” and “Słow”. He was also a regular columnist for “Życie na czas” and “Gazeta Wyborcza”. For special merits, the Union of Polish Stage Artists awarded him the title of “distinguished member”.
In 2012, at the request of the Chapter of the Order of Polonia Restituta, Witold Sadowy he was awarded the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta by President Bronisław Komorowski for “outstanding contribution to Polish culture, for achievements in creative work and artistic activity”. In the same year he was awarded the “Pro Masovia” medal.
In 2020, Witold Sadowy turned 100 years old. In a jubilee report that was broadcast in January, he publicly disclosed that he was gay. From 1942 he was associated with an engineer Jan Ryżowwith whom he was until his death in 1996.
