Today, Saturday, November 14 is ‘World Diabetes Day’. The month of November has therefore been declared Diabetic month. In this month, various activities are carried out worldwide for awareness about diabetes. Suriname is also paying attention to this and Lions Club Paramaribo has chosen Felice to carry out a project at a primary school. The statistics have shown worldwide that the number of young people with diabetes mellitus shows an increasing trend.
This project has the character of an educational half-hour, in which the pupils of the 6th grades of the primary school OS Blauwgrond will be made aware of the chronic disease diabetes mellitus in a child-friendly way (healthy food, healthy lifestyle and more). They also receive a healthy meal from Lions Club Paramaribo Felice.
It is worth noting that on Monday, November 16, this project will be carried out in collaboration with the EFS College COVAB, the central training for nurses and practitioners of related professions.
The ‘World Diabetes Day’ is annually on November 14 and is the most important global awareness campaign for diabetes. This day was introduced in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in response to the alarming rise in diabetes around the world.
The aim of ‘World Diabetes Day’ is to raise awareness and understanding of diabetes, which is epidemic worldwide, among adults but also among children.
