Offenburg Marketing Club Ortenau / Offenburg Online lecture: Employees for controlling inspire news from Ortenau

Nicole Jekel was a guest at the Marketing Club Ortenau / Offenburg and reported in an online lecture about controlling and how everyone can be enthusiastic about numbers.

Nicole Jekel was a guest at the Marketing Club Ortenau / Offenburg and emphasized: “When it comes to controlling, you have to take people with you.” In her presentation, the speaker and business administration expert made it clear that controlling and reporting are not just a cemetery of numbers or dry tables. That comes from a press release. For the sixth edition of the marketing warehouse in Rheinau, Program Director Sandra Wörner and CFO Martin Mildenberger invited the members and guests virtually in front of the camera.

Anecdotes from practice

According to the motto “Controlling for everyone: If you take your employees with you and get them excited about numbers”, the expert demonstrated methods of how dry-looking content from finance departments can be conveyed in a playful way. Due to her many years of experience as an entrepreneur, professor, investor and author, she was able to illustrate many methods with anecdotes from practice, according to the press release. With the interactive survey tool “Mentimeter” the audience was also repeatedly involved in the virtual lecture.

Jekel recommended that the participants focus on a few key figures that are important for this, in line with the maxim “relevance before frippery”. To do this, however, everyone must first be clear about which key figures are relevant. According to the press release, this should then be discussed in the team. In this way, colleagues get “the feeling of participating and are motivated for the topic,” Jekel is quoted as saying.

In her lecture, the expert also relies on the animal personality model from author Tobias Beck. According to Beck, humans can be assigned to four types of animals. There is the dominant shark who prefers concise facts that are presented quickly and directly. Dolphins, on the other hand, would prefer the personal touch, which is expressed in many and nice words. According to the press release, the steady whales prefer to take it easy and stay aloof. The last group, the owls, prefer factual data and facts and can be inspired by them.

“If we want to sell our numbers inward, it is important to take these personality types into account,” Jekel is further quoted as saying. The long-time controller of DAX companies emphasized the diversity of employees: “Depending on the personality, reports have to be adapted to the various preferences, for example.” According to the press release, Jekel believes that every type of person slowly but surely enjoys the topic of controlling can develop. However, the process could stretch over a long period of time.

The Marketing Club

According to the press release, the Marketing Club Ortenau / Offenburg was founded in 1999. In lectures and on-site meetings with companies, the club offers its more than 300 members first-hand knowledge and a platform for networking. The club meets every month in the conference room of the Hubert Burda Media Tower. Due to the coronavirus, the lectures from Rheinau are currently being broadcast.
