The Trump administration has again failed to phase out protections for young Obama-era migrants. A judge in New York declared the cancellation of the so-called DACA program by Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf invalid.

The DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program protects migrants who illegally traveled with their parents to the United States as children from deportation. The measure taken by Trump’s predecessor Barack Obama protects an estimated 700,000 migrants.
The Donald Trump administration, for whom the fight against illegal migration is very important, initially wanted to abolish the program completely. In May, the Supreme Court prevented that. Subsequently, Minister Chad Wolf tried, among other things, to stop new applications.
However, the court found that Wolf was not properly appointed as head of the Homeland Security service and thus could not make a legal decision. The American Court of Audit had already said this. The Trump administration wants to make another effort to get the controversial Wolf confirmed in his position in the Senate.
