The new president of the PSD’s Braga Municipal Political Commission, João Granja, today elected with the vote of 159 militants, is considering extending the Juntos por Braga Coalition (PSD / CDS / PPM) in power since 2013 to the Liberal Initiative and Alliance parties, with a view to the 2021 municipal elections.
“We did not intend to speak with Chega, either because we are unaware of his activity in Braga, or because we disagree with his political stance,” he said in statements to O MINHO.
In the elections that took place today at the party headquarters, in which 472 militants could vote, there were also seven white votes and three null votes. For the Bureau of the Section Assembly, which is once again led by Américo Afonso, 161 voters voted, registering seven white votes and one null.
Granja, a former bank manager who had chaired the agency for six years, plans to “unite the party” around the re-election to a third term of the current mayor, Ricardo Rio.
“This list is one of unity, so as not to let the energies of the militants be lost in sterile disputes,” Granja told O MINHO, adding that he will work to increase the results not only in the Chamber, but also in the Municipal Assembly and parishes.
João Granja, a bank manager who was already a deputy in parliament and leader of the council, and is currently the leader of the Social Democrats in the Assembly, points out that, in principle, the alliance with the CDS and PPM will be maintained, with an agreement to formalize the from January.
For the two-year term, he promises to open the party to Braga society and its youth, with an eye on social and environmental issues.
The Political Commission has as number two, the director of Agere, Rui Morais, followed by jurist João Marques.
The list had as its first subscriber the mayor Ricardo Rio, support that also comes from the two councilors who are militants, Olga Pereira and João Rodrigues, as well as from all affiliated Junta presidents.
