Berlin is the sad leader in car theft. 350 cars per 100,000 registered vehicles are stolen there – more than in any other federal state. This emerges from the 2019 federal management report on vehicle crime by the Federal Criminal Police Office. Nevertheless, Berliners are the least likely to insure their cars with comprehensive insurance. This is shown by a current analysis of the comparison portal Check 24.
Compared to the national average, they are seven percent less likely to choose partial or fully comprehensive insurance. It looks better there in Hamburg.

After Berlin, Hamburg (128 thefts) and Brandenburg (80 thefts) have the most cars stolen for every 100,000 registered vehicles. However, car owners there protect their cars against this risk. Compared to the national average, they take out comprehensive insurance six percent more often and even twelve percent more often than Berliners.
Schleswig-Holstein residents also cover their cars relatively often with comprehensive insurance. At the same time, the number of car thefts with 26 stolen vehicles per 100,000 registrations is slightly below the national average (34 thefts).
