Prison sentences for Klaas Otto and lawyer for influencing witnesses | NOW

The court in Breda on Thursday imposed six months in prison on Klaas Otto for influencing witnesses. The founder of motorcycle club No Surrender was helped by his lawyer Jan Piet van R., who was sentenced to two years in prison. Counsel was also found guilty of drug possession.

Otto was imprisoned in 2016 on suspicion of extortion and aggravated assault. He wanted two witnesses to amend and withdraw their statements.

To achieve this, he wrote notes that his lawyer Jan Piet van R. smuggled out of prison. She gave it to Otto’s girlfriend Nancy B., who distributed it further. The witnesses were offered a lot of money.

Immediately after the verdict, the public prosecutor had Van R. arrested by detectives present in the room. Otto was not in the room.

Nancy B. was only given a 180-hour community service for her cooperation, in addition to her 53-day custody. The criminal Piet S., who approached one of the witnesses, was no longer punished. The court took into account that earlier this year he had been jailed for 22 years for a murder. If the two cases had been heard at the same time, it would not have resulted in more punishment than those 22 years, the judge found.

Friday a statement about Otto

Otto’s influence ultimately did not work. The man from Bergen op Zoom was sentenced to six years in prison in 2018 for extortion, assault and money laundering. The court in Groningen will make another ruling against Otto on Friday. Three years in prison has been demanded against him for allegedly leading a criminal organization as captain of No Surrender.
