‘Undisputed hero’ Van Basten gets drama series with ‘international allure’

Marco van Basten’s life becomes the subject of an international drama series. The ANP reports this. Producer Hollands Licht has bought the rights to the autobiography of the former world football player of the year.

Producer Dan Blazer promises ‘a series with international allure’, according to the news agency. Who in the skin of the former top striker of Ajax in AC Milan must crawl is not yet known. Barry Atsma is attached to the project as a ‘creative consultant’. “Marco is an undisputed hero for me”, says the actor. “But I’ve also come to know him as a fascinating character full of contradictions. Extremely ambitious, genius and demanding, but at the same time vulnerable, searching and movingly sincere. His whimsicality is a great source for a compelling series.”

It is not yet clear when the recordings will start. Last year his autobiography Basta was published, in which Van Basten tells about his childhood, the relationship with his parents and the highlights of his career, including the victory of the 1988 European Championship with Orange. The lows are also discussed, such as his ankle injury and financial setbacks.

In The Netherlands More than 100,000 copies of Basta have now been sold.
