Which of the parents has not been in a situation when the weekend is approaching and the thought comes to mind: “What can we do this holiday?” Of course, many of the ideas have to be ruled out at the outset due to the limitations of Covid-19, but it will definitely end someday. When filming a show “Ralph is ready”, we have been to several fantastic places that offer exciting culinary tours and master classes specifically for children, so at least I want to share some ideas – if it is useful for someone in the near or distant future plans. –
Our first stop is in Rauna, where the Ceriņi family company “Siera ražotne” has been operating since 2006. Driving after “Waze”, at one moment it seems that we are nowhere to be found, and when I call the owner Ilmārs, he immediately says – well, in which end are you lost, do you see the big chimney? It makes us breathe a sigh of relief and I understand that if getting lost here is not uncommon, then we are definitely close to our destination.
We arrive there on a hot summer day, and after a while Ilmārs’ wife Zane is present with ice cream, after which he ran to the nearby store. Of course, I understand that this is an exclusive reception that cannot be afforded on every tour, when a large class of 20 children arrives or the schedule is planned in minutes. And yet – this nice gesture wonderfully illustrates the hospitality of the hosts and the real joy of the arrival of guests.
Excursions to the “Cheese Factory” are common practice. During them, both large and small can see the factory, listen to the story of the company’s emergence, get acquainted with the production process and taste the products made on site. However, the “Pasta Workshop” has also started operating here not so long ago. And it’s a real adventure for both children and adults! Because the opportunity to compete at the speed of dough rolling and cut pasta with your own hands with a special machine – probably only a few of us have tried it. After all, every day we just go to the store, buy a package of ready-made pasta and do not think about it at all – where, in what way and from what it is made. But here – the children really see how it all works, and can even pack the pasta made during the tour to take home. In addition, the head of the company Ilmārs is also an outstanding storyteller. And while the children roll and cut the pasta, in the meantime, he manages to educate them on how to grow grains in the field, from which flour is then made, and to describe the history of pasta.
Homepage www.sierarazotne.lv it is written that tours are available for groups from 15 to 25 people. And it’s definitely a cool place to celebrate both a birthday, as long as the little anniversary likes cooking, and a place to visit with the class. But – if you have any questions, just call Ilmārs (22014583), because he is a super responsive and enthusiastic person who can definitely think outside the box.
It’s hard to describe in words the sense of adventure we drove away from the “Cheese Factory”. But we realized that everything went better than expected, listening to the whole child on the way home would leave the child with what he had heard and experienced on the tour. And probably the most important thing I want to say – in this place you can almost feel that the production of cheese and pasta is the heart of the Lilac family, that’s why everything is done from the heart in the “Cheese Factory” – it prepares and welcomes guests from the heart!
