Ice hockey – Bremerhaven – Bremerhaven wins the DEL tournament opener against Krefeld – Sport

Bremerhaven (dpa) – The Fischtown Pinguins from Bremerhaven won against the Krefeld Penguins at the start of the preparatory tournament of the German Ice Hockey League. Almost eight months after the season ended due to the coronavirus pandemic, coach Thomas Popiesch’s team prevailed on Wednesday in Group A against the Rhinelander in front of empty ranks with 3: 1 (0: 0, 1: 1, 2: 0). Bremerhaven’s Miha Verlic (41st minute) and Alex Friesen (58th) made the decision in the third third.

Eight of the 14 DEL clubs take part in the preparatory tournament for the possible start of the season. On Thursday (7.30 p.m. / Magentasport), Group B starts with the prestige duel between host Adler Mannheim and EHC Red Bull Munich. The two best teams from two groups of four each qualify for the semi-finals, the final is scheduled for December 12th or 13th. It is still unclear whether, in view of the corona pandemic, the new DEL season will begin and a decision should be made on November 19.
