The still President of the United States, Donald Trump, made this Wednesday the first public appearance since Joe Biden’s victory was declared. Trump went to Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia to participate in an event honoring war veterans. Trump’s participation lasted only about 5 minutes and the President made no public statements, continuing the silence he has maintained for the past few days.
Donald Trump was at one of his golf clubs on Saturday when Joe Biden’s victory was announced by the American media. That day, Trump returned to the White House and has not yet left, nor spoken in public, except through Twitter, where he has repeated a series of unfounded allegations of electoral fraud.
It is from the White House that Donald Trump has managed a furious reaction to the election result, which he refuses to accept. In addition to having published dozens of tweets with allegations of fraud, the still President is coordinating a set of legal efforts, with his team of lawyers moving cases of electoral fraud in several US states (although a considerable part of these processes have already have been refused by the judges).
Donald Trump’s refusal to recognize the election result is accentuate divisions in the White House and the Republican Party, among those loyal to the President who support him unconditionally and those who, sharing Trump’s ideas, fear that his attitude is undermining the American electoral system. Also on the Trump team of lawyers there is already some discomfort due to the insistence on filing cases for electoral fraud without concrete evidence.
