For the first time, a clinic for the whole family
–
“We are moving from personal medicine to community medicine”. This, in summary, is the school case that is taking place a Genoa, where a new model of medicine shows that not all evil (del coronavirus) it comes to harm: especially if we know how to treasure novelties like this. A single place, close to home, to treat people from 0 to 100 years, where to swab the child and, if necessary, the mother or grandfather. “Soon we will be able to carry out first level exams and performances. Here community medicine was born, on the territory. From here we begin to help hospitals not to suffocate ”, he commented Gianlorenzo Bruni, family doctor, who together with Piero Gianiorio, pediatrician, and the president of the Val Polcevera Municipality, Frederico romeo have present thenational experiment which they set up in the valley of the bridge.
At the moment we have 19 family doctors and 11 pediatricians who, in total regime Volunteering, they organized the first integrated clinic in which they will do tampons to adults, elderly and children. It happens in Teglia, in a building made available by the Town Hall for free. With an investment of only 5 thousand euros to support the work of voluntary medical personnel, now there is even the “Covid Tour”: home visits to the sick and the delivery of medicines at home.
When we say to make the experience fruitful
How was this possible? Rather than waiting for the situation to evolve, hoping that the virus had truly and definitively weakened, during last summer the municipal administration prepared a plan – as explained by the president of the Municipality, Federico Romeo, to Repubblica – with the doctors and the Asl3. Taking advantage of the experience just passed, the vaccination campaign, with three clinics in the area. “And with the second wave, we have converted this first territorial network into a new clinic for tampons which, so far, works with adults but where, from next week, pediatricians and children will also enter ”.
In a few days, therefore, the Teglia clinic – which runs an average of 60-80 tampons per day – “will become the monitoring point for schools della Val Polcevera: I’m organizing a meeting with the managers to explain the procedures ”, said Romeo. Meanwhile, another, new, free access buffer point, drive through, is about to be born in Pontedecimo.
For the first time, the whole family is treated together
“The arrival of pediatricians, as already the work of the doctors of General medicine, makes the Val Polcevera clinic a national unicum: because it is the first example of integrated territorial medicine which is reactivated and becomes a team, putting skills and strength into a system ”, added Gianlorenzo Bruni.
A small revolution
“What is fundamental, and new, in this clinic is that our patients are the children of our colleagues in general medicine and for the first time we work together in the same place”, adds Piero Gianiorio, pediatrician, soul and body of the project pioneer. Obviously, in this way, if you consider that a child needs a tampon, it will be easier and faster for everyone to trace the parents to perform it for them too. “We are moving from personal medicine to community medicine”. What about the future? When Covid passes “this model of territorial medicine will remain, to offer integrated services and guarantee quality medicine, the result of the teamwork of many professionals, and close to people”, concluded Bruni.
