“The year started very well”, Dionne looks back. “My sister, who lives in Barcelona, had her first child in January. My parents and I went to her immediately. We were in the hospital, I had the little baby, which was really wonderful. my mother unwell. We spent all night in the emergency room, they just couldn’t figure out what it was. ”
“Once back in the Netherlands”, the presenter continues, “we went into hospital, out of hospital. (…) The year that started very well turned into something I didn’t see coming at all.” When, after many examinations, the doctors finally found out that it was a cyst and troubled cells, “she had to go to the medical mill. Chemotherapy, an operation and now chemo again. It’s tough.”

Fortunately for Dionne, the outlook looks bright. “In principle, all the wrong cells should be gone after surgery and chemotherapies,” she says. Despite all the bad news, Dionne never gave up. “My mother is a woman full of energy. She is 66 and has just retired, but she still has a very full life with yoga, a club here, a drink there. She really enjoys life so much, and then it is very unreal. to see her so sick. But I’ve always kept hope. “

The presenter says that her mother is always ready for her daughter during hectic periods, so Dionne does that naturally also the other way around .. “My mother is really always there for me. (…). So when I heard that it was really intense months before her, I wanted to be there for her, especially when corona came along, so I can’t even give her a hug, hold her for a moment, snuggle up to her in bed when she’s having a hard time. So at least I want to do the banal things that I can do, such as shopping and housekeeping. And I’ve been doing that for a few months now. “
The entire interview with Dionne can be read in JAN Magazine. The magazine will be in the shops from tomorrow.
