Chalana Spee has been working as a carer in nursing home Loericker Stee for three years. She is currently on maternity leave. “I have quite a problem with that: I find it difficult that I cannot immediately assist my colleagues in these difficult times.” The feeling of powerlessness gave Chalana the idea of a card promotion. “In this way I can still contribute my bit.”
In the ‘Houten’ Facebook group she placed the call: Dear people, at the moment my colleagues and residents have a very hard time in the Loericker Stee. There are many sick from corona. To encourage them, I ask you to send or bring along a card, drawing, flower or wrapped treat. In this way we show that we are thinking about them. ”
From cards to fries and roses
Soon chalanas flowed inbox full. ”People send me messages saying, ‘what do you need?’ It is so nice to see that Houtenaren are willing to do something for each other. Every gesture – big or small – is appreciated. ” For example, many cards are sent and drawings are brought along. Local entrepreneurs are also eager to help. “The florist from the Oude Dorp brought roses, the baker handed out gingerbread cookies and a catering entrepreneur set up a chip stand at the nursing home.”
Worth repeating
Earlier this year, Chalana placed the same call, which already received many positive responses. “In the spring the situation in the nursing home was so bad that residents were not allowed to receive visitors. That is different now, but that does not make this period any less difficult. It is good to see that people are again committed to others. ”
Happy responses from a distance
Due to her pregnancy and the current situation in the care home, Chalana witnesses the reactions of residents from a distance. “Because I work with elderly people with dementia, the residents are not always aware of what exactly is happening. However, I often hear their happy reactions from my colleagues. ” The families of the residents are also very grateful. ‘My mother is so happy’ and ‘How nice that my father got this!’ Are reactions to the campaign.
Send or drop by
If you would like to send something to the Loericker Stee, you can do so to the following address: Hollandsspoor 1, 3994 VT Houten. Would you rather bring something along? At the lock entrance of the nursing home there are bins where you can store cards and other gifts. Chalana adds: “We also really sympathize with all colleagues and residents of Het Haltna Huis and Het Houtens Erf. They too can use the support use in these difficult times. “
