Liepaja Symphony Orchestra offers concert recordings online / Article / LSM.lv

When face-to-face concerts are not possible, the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra (LSO) offers its listeners free content online – various concerts, including for children, including the opera “Suiti saga” and the concert interview series “Closer” can be found on the orchestra’s website and Latvian Television website Replay .lv, as well as in the archives of Latvian Radio 3, LSO representatives informed.

“At a time when people’s need for pleasure and support is growing, we want to give our fellow people our wonderful performance in concerts, concert talks and opera performances in digital format. We have compiled our recordings in one place, which are available free of charge in our own collections, as well as in the collections of Latvian Television and Latvian Radio. We hope that they will serve as a reinforcement of the spirit and help to expect a retreat in live concerts, ”said Uldis Lipskis, the conductor of the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra.

LSO website It is possible to watch 14 programs of the concert interview cycle “Closer”, which the orchestra has broadcast live from the concert hall “Lielais dzintars” almost every Thursday. In the part-hour series, you can get to know the personalities that make up this team. In the show, you can enjoy the performance of the orchestra’s artists in a variety of musical styles, as well as talk to Timur Thomson, the director of the concert hall, or Dzintars Hmieļevskis, a person on the Western Radio, to find out what excites and inspires these musicians.

There is also an educational orchestra concert for children about how music is made. In this concert, LSO together with clarinetist Egils Šēfers and composer Rihards Dubras invites to learn the secrets of music creation.

The orchestra’s website also includes a concert talk “Music in the Space of Cultural History”, which took place online this year at the Saldus Pentecostal Chamber Music Festival. The conversation between Harry Tuman, Doctor of Historical Sciences, and Inta Zegner, a journalist and musicologist at Latvian Radio 3 “Klasika”, was supplemented by music by Johann Sebastian Bach performed by violinist Līga Baltābola.

It is still possible to watch the concert dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Imants Kalniņš on the public media content player Replay.lv (under the direction of Maris Sirmas, the orchestra plays both the Seventh Symphony and the miniature “Santa Claus” and also the Concerto for Oboe with the solo of the outstanding Latvian oboist Peter Endzelis).

It is also possible to watch the original Latvian opera “Suiti saga” created in the Latvian national centenary program, the author of which is the composer Rihards Dubra.

The archives of Latvijas Radio 3 “Klasika” contain many LSO concert recordings in audio format, including the five-year anniversary concert of the Liepāja Concert Hall “Lielais dzintars”, the opening concert of this – the LSO 140th anniversary season and many others.

CONTEXT:

During the Covid-19 outbreak in the spring, an emergency situation was declared in Latvia to control the new coronavirus. The situation was stable in the summer, but the morbidity at the end of September fast increased. The government tightened security measures, but the incidence of Covid-19 continued to rise.

In November, in order to limit the spread of Covid-19 in Latvia, the government decided to re-declare a state of emergency in the country, which will be in force from November 9 to December 6, and during which there will be new, stricter restrictions.

In particular, all on-site public cultural events will be canceled and banned by 6 December. Museums, libraries, cultural centers and other cultural sites will be able to continue the work during the limited working hours – from 06:00 to 20:00, by refusing to organize events.
