Singer Geike Arnaert returns to band Hooverphonic | NOW

Geike Arnaert has returned as a singer with Hooverphonic, reports GARDEN Monday. The singer was part of the formation between 1997 and 2008, when the band achieved international success.

The band will represent Belgium during the Eurovision Song Contest of 2021 with Arnaert as the front woman. Last year, Hooverphonic would also participate in the song Release Me, which was then sung by singer Luka Cruysberghs. The festival was then canceled due to the corona pandemic. Arnaert’s return means that Cruysberghs has left the band.

“We ran into each other. All three of us felt like working together again, so we felt we had to do this. It is still the ‘core Hooverphonic’, which is synonymous with the band for a lot of people. It’s simple “, co-founder Alex Callier told the Belgian broadcaster.

‘It’s a strange sensation’

41-year-old Annaert sang on the popular album The Magnificent Tree, which appeared in 2000. This album includes the hit Mad about you. The band was allowed to perform at the opening ceremony of the European Football Championship in France that same year.

Annaert left the band in 2008, but now The Magificent Tree celebrating his anniversary was the time to return.

“It’s a strange sensation. I really enjoy getting back in it, it feels really good for myself. I’m going to put my own story in the songs again.”
