It could have been worse: In the 2nd round of the DFB Cup, Florian Kohfeldt’s team will face the second division side – but away from home.
Werder Bremen was lucky with the draw for the second round of the DFB Cup. The green-whites face second division Hannover 96 away.
The cup games of the 32 remaining teams are scheduled for December 22nd and 23rd. When exactly Werder will play will be determined in the coming days.
It’s an uncomfortable lot. Hannover is a very ambitious second division team with many first division experienced players. We have to deliver a top performance, but of course our aim is to advance to the next lap.

–For the financially troubled green-whites, the cup competition is not only important from a sporting point of view, but also because of the bonuses that increase round by round. “Especially in the current financial situation that we are in, that would be a very nice additional income,” added Werder’s sports director Frank Baumann in the Sportblitz: “That is why we are of course doubly motivated in Hanover to then overwinter in the cup.”
