New York City: These new attractions await

This city is constantly reinventing itself: But 2019 will be a “monumental year”, like the tourism organization NYC & Company announces confidently. Thanks to the opening of Hudson Yards, the newest and largest real estate project on the Westside, the city has gained several attractions in just a few months.

On the first weekend in April, the multi-art center “The Shed” opened in Skyscraper City, which is dedicated to international exhibitions of fine art, design and media. Right next to it is the walk-in, urban object “The Vessel”, which was designed by the British designer Thomas Heatherwick. And in June the first hotel will open in the new noble neighborhood, the “Equinox”.

The fascination New York City exerts on its visitors remains unbroken despite the policies of the Trump administration. In 2018, for the ninth year in a row, the city recorded growth in tourism and reached a record 65.2 million visitors. This included 51.6 million domestic and 13.5 million international visitors. 634,000 Germans are expected for the current year alone.

2019 in New York: The Year of Pride

“With an abundance of mega openings across New York City and the historic 50th anniversary of Stonewall and hosting the World Pride 2019 is really going to be a monumental year, “said Fred Dixon, president of NYC & Company.

For the first time, the major gay and lesbian event will take place in the United States. The LGBTQ celebrations coincide with the historic 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Risingtogether when civil unrest broke out on June 28, 1969 in response to a police raid on the Stonewall Inn. Dozens of exhibitions and events are planned for summer 2019. New York City alone expects four million visitors over the period of 30 days for these events alone.
