Samsung Galaxy M51 is a PLN 1699 smartphone with the best battery on the market. During the month of testing, I checked its advantages and disadvantages and why it is worth buying. Or maybe it’s better to choose a competitor’s phone? All these questions are answered in my Samsung Galaxy M51 review.

Samsung Galaxy M51 in Poland costs PLN 1699. For such money, it has a lot of competition, because you can easily find more efficient models with screens with high refresh rates. In addition, they will take better photos. So what is it worth?
Housing like the best Lumia
The Samsung Galaxy M51 is a smartphone that makes a great impression after the first hand. It is large, heavy and made of plastic. None of these features is a disadvantage for me, because I prefer this construction to thin phones that cut into my hand. M51 weighs a lot, but it feels good.
Throughout the testing period, I wore it without a case and there were some scratches on the back panel, but I certainly didn’t handle it like an egg. I carried it in my pocket with the keys, put it on the table, moved it around. The build quality is definitely a plus and brings to mind the best Lumia. It’s hard for a better compliment to a smartphone with a plastic housing.

The front of the device is completely filled with a Super AMOLED screen with a diagonal of 6.67 inches. This is another good reason why you should buy this smartphone. The panel in direct comparison is better than the one from the theoretically better and more expensive Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite. It is bright and legible in bright sunlight.
Only 90 Hz is missing, but the Korean manufacturer is not eager to introduce this solution to the middle shelf. It’s a pity, because this would make the M51 the perfect multimedia smartphone. This is only very good. The great advantage is the thickness of the frames, which are close to full symmetry.

I would not be offended by stereo speakers either, because the one on the bottom edge is not even suitable for watching video.
The fingerprint reader was placed on the side edge and it was a good decision. Samsung scanners integrated with the screen are average even in flagships, and in the middle shelf it is similar. The side bezel reader is fast, although I wouldn’t describe the accuracy as perfect either. If I touch it with the thumb of my right hand, that’s fine, but for a left-handed person it’s a bit of gymnastics.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that the Samsung Galaxy M51 has a 3.5mm headphone jack, and the thigh is not waterproof in any way. Of course, there is no wireless charging either.
The battery is second to none
Here we come to the point where the Samsung Galaxy M51 starts to shine. The 7000mAh battery has absolutely no competition in the market at any price point. This model is a king in which good software and an energy-saving processor play an equally important role as the link. Together, this gives a knocking effect.
If you’ve ever played Pokemon Go, you know how much the game drains your battery. I took my Samsung Galaxy M51 to a 6-hour Community Day, where in direct sunlight I did not turn off the screen for a moment. In addition, I normally used my smartphone all day. With 10 hours of display on at the end of the day, the Galaxy M51 had a 40 percent charge. Magic.

Generally, the SoT can be defined between 13 and 16 hours. Unlike me, if you don’t spend half a day in front of a smartphone screen, then 3 or 4 days of work are completely within reach.
It takes time to recharge such a link, but there is no tragedy. The kit includes a 25W adapter that will allow you to recover half the charge in about 45 minutes, and you can fill it up fully in just over two hours.
The performance is at a good level
How do the Snapdragon 730 and 6 GB RAM (in the Polish variant; I’m testing the 8 GB RAM version) work at the end of 2020? If you are not switching from the flagship, you will be satisfied. If you switch from an ex-flagship Samsung like the Galaxy Note 8 or Note 9, you will also be pleased, because a cheaper and newer smartphone manages applications in memory much better and less frequently reloads them from scratch.
The work culture is perfect. Perhaps thanks to the plastic housing, the heat spreads faster, because the back panel basically never gets warm. I did not notice any cuts in the animation, and if it were not for this unfortunate lack of 90 Hz, one would be very pleased.

Is it possible to play on the Samsung Galaxy M51? Well, I was playing for a few hours every day for a month, so it’s definitely possible. Certainly, at this price, you can buy much stronger smartphones, which are better for mobile players.
The camera is not great, but it’s good during the day
Samsung has definitely not gone crazy when it comes to photo facilities. There is space for four camera lenses on the rear panel. The best thing is that, thanks to the thickness of the devices, they only protrude slightly from the housing. To the extent that the smartphone on the table does not swing at all, which is a nice change compared to most of this year’s smartphones. This is the specification of the camera:
- Main lens f / 1.8 with a matrix with a resolution of 64 MP,
- 12 MP wide-angle lens, field of view 123 degrees,
- 5 MP macro sensor,
- 5MP depth sensor.
How does such a set work every day? When I bought a Samsung Galaxy M51, I knew it wasn’t good photo smartphone. Well, I was even sure that it would not be able to match Realme 6 ProI have used so far. And I was right, because the M51 can take nice pictures, but only in good light. Sometimes we can find better photosmartphones for less than a thousand. Nice portraits are a plus – of course only during the day.

When there is less light, the smartphone has clear problems with focusing. In rooms, trying to take a picture in the evening usually requires tapping your finger on the point you want to focus on. It shouldn’t be like this in 2020. The lack of OIS takes its toll at every step.
The wide-angle lens does it because it is supposed to do, but also only during the day. When there is less light, it has the same problems as the main matrix. I can write about two additional lenses that they are there and I have never consciously used them. I would prefer a telephoto lens instead of them, but we have to wait for that until next year – at least that’s what the leaks say.
I am a bit disappointed with the quality of the front camera. While a selfie is an occasional thing for me, video calling is useful and it would be nice if the matrices on the front could do a bit better. It’s just okay, but nothing else.
Software as a big plus – as always
At the time of publication of this test, the Samsung Galaxy M51 works on Android 10, the overlay version is OneUI 2.1, and the fixes are dated August. So it is very average and I would put it down to the fact that this model is not covered Samsung’s 3-year update program. I think it’s stupid because the almost twin Galaxy A71 is already in it. However, the smartphone has an update to Android 11 and OneUI 3.0.
I already commented on the software of the Korean manufacturer in my short opinion about OneUI 2.5 na Galaxy Note 10 Liteso I will not write here. It can be argued that OxygenOS from OnePlus or Android from Pixel is better, but the Samsung version suits me better. The overlay is nice and has all the features I expect. Everything runs smoothly, the animations are nice, and I didn’t notice any special bugs either.

As for the quality of voice calls, that’s great. I was heard well and my interlocutors were well heard. As it happens with Samsung, the range is not perfect. Both the Wi-Fi connection and the mobile network coverage were slightly below the norm that Xiaomi models got used to.
Of course, the Samsung Galaxy M51 has NFC and you can pay with it in stores. I have already mentioned the average speaker, it is only worth adding something about the sound quality on the headphones. The level is not flagship, but the smartphone plays well, loud and clear on better headphones. There is nothing to expect more for this money.
Is it worth buying a Samsung Galaxy M51?
Yes. Briefly and specifically – if you want a smartphone with the best battery, this one is absolutely unrivaled. It’s worse if you are considering it for other reasons, because you have a little over PLN 1,500 to spend. I wouldn’t be so sure then.

The situation looks like this. Such Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite it has a 120 Hz screen, 5G connectivity, much more efficient components and a better camera. ABOUT OnePlusie North you can say the same. You can buy little more Realme X3 SuperZoomwhich takes incomparably better photos.
Added to this is the Xiaomi Mi 10T i POCO F2 Pro, which also have good batteries (although they absolutely cannot match the Galaxy M51), and they have flagship processors, and in promotions you will soon find them for similar money.
So I can recommend the Samsung Galaxy M51 to users like me. Someone who uses a smartphone very intensively, but does not require absolutely top performance or a perfect camera. Then this one the phone is worth every penny.
Oh – if you play Pokemon Go, then the Samsung Galaxy M51 is your ideal. There is simply no better model for this game. And it won’t be soon. So if you find the Samsung Galaxy M51 in Black Friday promotions for less than PLN 1,500, I definitely recommend buying it.
