Volkswagen Golf R 2020 the most powerful of all time

This is the most powerful VW Golf R ever made. The new Golf R with a supercharged four-cylinder 2.0-liter engine with 315 horsepower (235 kilowatts) and 310 Nm of torque, giving it acceleration from zero to one hundred in 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 250 km / h. The Golf R model year 2022 received 27 horsepower more than the previous model, and buyers can choose between a six-speed manual transmission or an optional seven-speed DSG.

As you’d expect, the 2022 Golf R comes standard with 4Motion all-wheel drive – but the setup is a little different than previous generations. VW is promoting a new rear differential that distributes power variably between the axles, with the ability to send up to 100 percent of torque to the outer wheel using a special “Drift Mode” function. The new Drift Mode is one of two special driving modes configurable in Race mode and combines standard driving options such as Sport, Comfort and Individual.

VW has also completely retuned the front axle and the multi-link suspension at the rear of the Golf R has a 20 mm lower ground clearance than the previous version. Thanks to stiffer springs and a new geometry, the Golf’s chassis is 10 percent stiffer than its predecessor at the front and rear, with a 1% reduction in negative deflection and a 6.6 lb weight loss thanks to a lightweight aluminum subframe.

Visually, the latest Golf R certainly looks as good as its performance suggests. The hot hatch acquires a new front bumper with R-specific air intake grilles and glossy black elements. A set of 19-inch alloy wheels is supplied as standard and is packed in summer tires.

The cab has a technically advanced design – similar to what we’ve seen on the GTI – highlighted by a 10-inch touch screen, VW digital cockpit and even steering wheel touchpad controls that replace traditional analog buttons.

There is also a special “R” button on the steering wheel for easy access to Race mode. Blue decorative elements and “R” logos adorn the seats, dashboard and steering wheel, and the Golf R for the first time receives an optional Nappa leather seating area.

Nothing is said about the prices yet, but given that the 2019 model started at around CZK 900,000 and expect the new version to cost the same, if not a little more.
