Due to the lack of players, the Spanish basketball team Badalona “Joventut”, which also plays Latvian Artūrs Žagars, was forced to postpone the game planned for next week’s ULEB Eurocup tournament, the club reports.
Joventut has informed the tournament organizers that the local government has ordered the team to comply with quarantine, as a result of which it does not have eight players, which is the minimum number to participate in the Eurocup match.
The Badalona team would have competed on Tuesday with the French club “JL Bourg en Bresse”, which had already won once in October.
The shareholders’ board of the Euroleague Commercial Assets (CEA) has previously stated that one game in a given tournament can be postponed three times, as long as the two clubs manage to agree on the timing.
The Badalona team has not suffered a loss in five games in the European Cup this season and is the first among the six teams in Group A.
In the ULEB Eurocup 24 teams will be divided into four subgroups, but the second stage will be reached by the four best teams in each group, while the two best teams in each subgroup of the “Top16” round will advance to the quarterfinals. In the elimination tournament, the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will take place in a series of up to two wins.
Last season, the tournament was stopped before the quarter-finals and the champions were not determined.
