The manager of an employment agency has severely abused an employee, a labor migrant from Romania. That can be seen on leaked video images in hands of the AD. In addition to the manager, the perpetrator is also the owner’s son. The victim and the other Romanian employees do not want to comment on the abuse.
If you look at the images, you will see the Romanian man leaning forward in a chair, while the manager stands in front of him and repeatedly yells at him “You make joke with me”. Then he starts pounding the man with his fists and kicks him, also in the head. The victim collapses and tries to avoid the punches and kicks, but has no chance from his chair. Employment agency Reyhan, according to AD ‘one of the major employment agencies in the Dutch meat sector’, provides staff to the Vion slaughterhouse, among other things. That immediately ended the collaboration with Reyhan. Trade union FNV reported the abuse.
Reyhan’s owner, also the perpetrator’s father, saw the images on Monday. He then fired his son. “No matter what preceded the abuse, I cannot accept what my son did. But this is a private matter, it has nothing to do with my business, ”says Askin Reyhan. The victim himself is still at work. John Klijn of the FNV trade union wonders whether this is voluntary. Reyhan says the victim harassed a neighbor in a drunken mood and his son may have become so aggressive because the company is under a magnifying glass over previous incidents involving employees.
The union questions Reyhan’s story and has reported the abuse to the SZW inspectorate, which then passed the report on to the police. He is investigating the event. It seems difficult to get the real story on the table, as the Romanian community within Reyhan refuses to talk. It is by no means the first time that the employment agency has been in the news negatively. In 2018, two Romanian employees of the employment agency were beaten up by four men and evicted after disagreements with the company. A lawsuit against Reyhan is pending in Gelderland after an inspection in one of the homes where employees are staying, found as many as 22 beds.
The images can be seen on the site of the AD. Note: these images can be experienced as shocking.
