Another suspicion of infidelity against former Mayor Scholten: The Duisburg public prosecutor’s office has now initiated an investigation. The WAZ reports.
The allegations: Scholten is said to have traveled privately to Italy in his company car without informing the city administration or accounting accordingly. The district government of Düsseldorf, as a supervisory authority, filed a criminal complaint in July. In addition, the former mayor is said to have tried to cover up damage to his company car. He doesn’t want to have noticed her himself. But there are contradictions between his information and those of an expert brought in by the city.
Lawyer calls for the investigation to be closed
Scholten’s lawyer has applied for the investigation to be closed, the WAZ continues. There is insufficient suspicion, he says. Scholten had already been targeted by the prosecutors in 2018 on suspicion of infidelity. The investigation was closed in August last year because the allegations were not confirmed.
