Quoted from Ubergizmo, Saturday (7/11/2020), in a statement, Sony stated that the expansion of PS5 storage capacity will come at a later date.

While the PS5 has the necessary components to expand storage space, it appears that it will be disabled at launch and only activated at a later date via a software update.

Previously, this was discussed by PlayStation hardware architect, Mark Cerny. He said the PS5’s ability to expand storage could be via a solid state drive (SSD).

“It would be great if it happened with the launch, but it will likely be a little overtaken, so please wait to get that M.2 drive until you hear from us,” said Cerny.
