LIVE | Scammers actively selling forged corona statements | Inland

Scammers are active on social media who sell Covid-19 statements stating that someone has been tested negative for corona without actually having a test. Such a forged statement, which is often only offered for a few tens, can be used by the buyer to take it abroad.

The AD has approached a number of scammers on WhatsApp and Snapchat and has obtained a total of six travel documents by mail for a payment between 50 and 60 euros. Providers asked for name, surname, passport or social security number and date of the flight. The fraudsters worked under names such as Airplane Doctor, Digitale Dokter and Covidtest1950.

There is no national quality mark for the health certificates. They are normally issued by commercial parties who conduct corona tests. There, a test and accompanying statement can easily cost 150 euros.

Travel organization TUI says it uses a ‘careful control process’ at check-in at Schiphol and reports that ‘a few passengers’ have been denied access to the aircraft. “The fact that there are malicious parties who issue false statements against payment to untested persons is very reprehensible and resentful.”
