The Netherlands passes Belgium on coefficient ranking after victories Feyenoord and Ajax | NOW

Thanks to the victories of Ajax and Feyenoord, the Netherlands has risen a place on the UEFA coefficient ranking. Our country has passed Belgium and is eighth.

The Belgians had a dramatic European week with a 0-3 defeat of Club Brugge against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, after which Standard Liège, Antwerp and KAA Gent all lost in the Europa League.

The Netherlands did take points. Ajax’s victory at Midtjylland (1-2) in the Champions League and Feyenoord’s Europa League victory over CSKA Moscow (3-1) resulted in a total of 0.8 points, while PSV’s results (4-1- loss at PAOK) and AZ (1-0 defeat against Sociedad) yielded nothing. The Netherlands now has 34,600 points, while Belgium remains at 34,300.

The deficit of the Netherlands at number seven Russia (37,549) is still considerable, but the Russians have much more points to defend in the next two seasons than the Eredivisie clubs.

The Netherlands is back in the top eight after six years

It is the first time since 2014 that the Netherlands is in the top eight and in 2017 our country had even dropped to thirteenth place.

UEFA uses the coefficient ranking to distribute the European tickets for the following season. It looks at the total number of points achieved in the current and in the four previous seasons.

The numbers one to ten on the coefficient ranking list are in any case assured of one or more Champions League tickets. The Netherlands will only be entitled to two direct tickets if it is in the top six of the rankings and the gap with number six Portugal cannot be bridged for the time being.
