Officers had come to the azc on the night from Wednesday to Thursday because a man threatened to use a knife. When the police wanted to arrest him, he resisted and got help from other people. One of the officers then fired a shot and hit one of the suspects in the foot.
The four suspects who have been arrested are 20, 21, 25 and 27 years old. They are suspected of threats, attempted manslaughter and destruction. The use of the firearm by the police is, as usual, investigated by the National Criminal Investigation Department.
“Bam bam!”
Asylum seekers walking towards the bus stop the morning after the incident heard a thing or two during the night. “It was ‘boom boom’ yes!” Says one excitedly, coming off the large site. He gestures as if he is throwing something himself. Booze may have been involved. “It went on for a while with those men. Big fight, man. And ‘bambam’! ” he says.
Other ‘ear witnesses’ mainly heard police and ambulances approaching. Not everyone heard of the fired shot at the extensive asylum complex. They find it sour that some young men screw things up for the rest. “We really don’t do anything,” says a man in his fifties. “And something was flying around,” he says, pointing to the sky.
Safe landers
The COA mentions a ‘terrible incident’ for both the attacked employee and other asylum seekers, who have nothing to do with it. “The men involved are safelanders,” confirms spokesman Fabian Paardekooper. “They were in their asylum procedure.” He cannot yet say what caused the uproar. “We await the police investigation. We are in close contact with the police. ” Residents hope that the COA will inform the neighborhood about what has happened. “However, the incident took place on the grounds of the asylum seekers’ center,” says Paardekooper.
“I’m worried because a lot is happening here”
Willeke Vroom walks her round with the dog. “I’m worried because a lot is happening here. And now we actually hear it relatively quickly because of the shooting. But through the news. But even in the village it is always a hit and that for years. ”
It is particularly troubling to her and husband Wim Vroom (who was fatally injured in 2018 in a stabbing incident with a young Algerian who was later convicted) that they are once again so-called ‘safelanders’ who cause unrest. They emphasize that people who cause nuisance sometimes just turn up and are not necessarily temporary residents of the well-known asylum complex. “Just last week there were a number of young boys walking down the street, who had disappeared from the radar elsewhere in the country. Illegals who have no chance of a status and were apparently on a robber’s path. ”
