Open dialogue between the Order of Nurses of Potenza and the extraordinary commissioner of Aor San Carlo, engineer Giuseppe Spera, to address the scarcity of professional nursing resources present in the area, a shortage that has very serious consequences in the current phase of Covid 19 health emergency. Structurally understaffed nurses are the category most affected by the pandemic. Many employees, who have distinguished themselves for their generous commitment, have accumulated, due to the work overloads of the first phase of the emergency, shares of stress and fatigue that could affect the quality of assistance services.
The decision of the strategic management to launch a call for recruitment for the San Carlo nursing staff must in fact deal with the completely negative outcome of the similar procedure, for fixed-term nursing contracts, carried out by the ASM of Matera: only four responses to 350 requests.
To avoid the risk that a similar failure will repeat itself, the OPI of Potenza has urged the Commissioner with the powers of General Manager to evaluate the possibility of opening the call for the participation of the San Carlo undergraduates and the Lagonegro and Villa d’Agri Hospital Deans. .
“These young people – comments the president of the Order, Sara Robertucci, coordinator of the San Carlo hemodialysis – can already be considered company resources: they have in fact accumulated, thanks to a curriculum of studies that gives great weight to training in support in the field, hundreds of hours of service in the hospitals that host the three degree programs. Moreover, even the theoretical-disciplinary area is largely covered by teaching resources belonging to the San Carlo community. Postponing the publication of the announcement to 1 December would encourage their participation, as well as alleviate the burden of organic deficiencies, it would therefore also be a way of enhancing the didactic work already done and the experiences accumulated in our departments “.
