Small traders and elected officials obtained a first victory. From this Tuesday November 3, 2020, the supermarkets must close their “non-essential” shelves including in particular toys, books and other cultural products, flowers or clothing.
But is it really impossible to buy toys, clothes or even books from Auchan, Carrefour, Cora or Leclerc ? Explanations.
Orders by email, phone or online
Auchan Lobau in Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle) communicated on Tuesday on the possibilities of ordering “non-essential” products. The brand confirms that internet sales are still possible.
It is therefore not possible to place a Christmas toy in your shopping cart while shopping, but customers can order online and collect the merchandise in store. A stand “pick up on site” is also being installed in the supermarket located at the entrance to Nancy.
Toys available in drive and relay drive at Leclerc
On the side of Leclerc, we communicate on toys before this crucial Christmas period. In Frouard, north of Nancy, the store says that its department will obviously close in store but that it it is still possible to order online and make a “drive” with your car.
The inhabitants of Nancy, without a car, can make their purchases online and collect them at the Leclerc pedestrian drive from the station or rue Saint-Dizier.
“The shelves will close and we don’t know until when. Sales will drop during food purchases but we know that our customers will rush online, ”assures an anonymously a store manager, interviewed by Lorraine News.
The mayor of Nancy, Mathieu Klein, also considers that the announcements of Jean Castex on the closing of the shelves of the large distribution do not go far enough. A “necessary step”, he says, but he asks for local adaptations for the reopening of businesses.
At Cora Houdemont, “last day” for toys
In Cora Houdemont, one of the largest surfaces in Meurthe-et-Moselle, we confirm that it is still possible to buy products like toys or clothes this Tuesday, and this until the store closes. The government had indeed announced flexibility until Wednesday.
“We fill the drive with additional items,” confirms the sign that ensures that customers can do their Christmas shopping online.
Small traders can also click and collect
The containment application decree provides for authorization to practice click and collect and delivery for all businesses and not just for mass distribution.
For several days, small businesses, which have fewer resources, have been mobilizing to try to continue selling as the end of the year holidays approach.
So at Nancy, the Metropolis encourages local merchants to join the “Buy Grand Nancy” platform and will pay the delivery costs for customers and merchants during the confinement period.
On the Metz side, we also want to develop click and collect for the benefit of independent and local brands. The federation of traders is in the process of listing all the businesses in the metropolis that adopt this method of sale in order to be able to promote them on the internet.
