After Monday’s attack in Vienna, the security services in our country are monitoring the security situation more closely, and are following it up nationally and internationally. This was heard on Wednesday at the cabinet of the Minister of the Interior Annelies Verlinden (CD&V).

The Strategic and Coordinating Committee for Intelligence and Security met on Wednesday. The body consists of the Prime Minister, the ministers from the National Security Council, State Security, the General Intelligence and Security Service, Ocad, the federal police, the Crisis Center, Foreign Affairs and the federal prosecutor. Prime Minister Alexander De Croo (Open VLD) called it together after Monday’s attack in Vienna. But there have also been several attacks in France in recent weeks.
At the meeting Ocad (Body for the Coordination of Threat Analysis) confirmed, as it did on Tuesday, that the overall threat level is maintained at 2 (on a scale of 4). This means that an attack in our country is generally unlikely.
Level 3 in some places
‘The services do monitor the security situation more closely and monitor it nationally and internationally. The necessary security measures have been taken and will be tightened up where necessary, ‘said the Verlinden cabinet. For security reasons, the government cannot provide any information about what these tightened measures entail.
For specific sensitive places Ocad has a threat level 3, where a threat is possible and probable, but also for security reasons it does not explain this further. For the time being, there seem to be no indications that there is a link between the attack in Vienna and our country.
