WhatsApp Introduces New File Manager – TechPulse

WhatsApp brings new file manager

WhatsApp is currently rolling out a new feature worldwide that allows users to delete unnecessary files in an easier way.

With a new update, WhatApp makes an end to an overfull storage memory that is the result of an excess of photos and videos in your library. With a new file management function, Facebook’s chat service wants to make it easy for users to free up space on their smartphone. The new update rolls out worldwide this week.

The new feature bundles large files together, such as ‘Greater than 5MB’, so you can easily select and delete them. You can now also see files in new categories such as ‘Frequently forwarded’. There are also thumbnails that you can select to have better control over what you delete. The new feature will be accessible via Settings> Data and storage usage> Storage used. The current way of managing files within WhatsApp gives you the option to see how much space each category takes up per chat, such as photos, videos, GIFs and documents. If you then want to delete one of the categories, you delete everything that falls under it. That may seem useful, but it gives you little choice of how to keep files. If you want to keep a nice photo from a group conversation, but want to delete everything else, then of course you have a problem. As an alternative, you can choose to walk around with an overflowing smartphone, but you will soon encounter the limits of comfort.
