Chamber asks Schouten to stop hunting hares and rabbits | Inland

In 1950, the number of hares and rabbits in the Netherlands fell by between 60 and 70 percent, says the animal organization Zoogdiervereniging, which advises Schouten on the animal species. According to that organization, this is mainly due to viruses among rabbits and a lack of enough different types of grass for hares.

The Party for the Animals, together with PVV, D66, GroenLinks, SP, PvdA, asks for a text and explanation from Schouten about this. “Is it correct that the hare and rabbit hunt should continue as these endangered species are still on the free hunt list?” ask the parties. They ask Schouten to “quickly remove the hare and the rabbit from the list of freely huntable species.” They also want to know what the cabinet is going to do to better protect the animal species.

The hunting association interest club disputes the data of the Mammal Association. The hares and rabbits are not doing so badly, says the interest group, which is calling for extra controls on the counting of mammals.
