The corona dashboard is continuously subject to improvement and refinement of the data shown. With the most recent update, in addition to the refinement of the measurements of the sewage water figures, the information about the age structure of positively tested persons has been expanded and refined.
The RIVM and the water boards started the sewage water measurements. People infected with the coronavirus excrete virus particles through their faeces. By measuring its concentration in sewage water, it can be determined per region how the corona virus spreads and whether that spread is growing or decreasing.
Better insight via corona dashboard
Initially, the presence of virus particles in the sewage, collected at more than 300 locations, was reported per milliliter of sewage. From now on, this data will be converted into the number of virus particles per 100,000 inhabitants. Also new is the fact that the corona dashboard now also shows the development of the number of positive corona tests per safety region, over time. This adjustment is important because much more testing is now taking place. The absolute number of positive test results therefore provides less guidance.
Sewage measurements are carried out several times a week at more and more locations. In addition, the measurements are also corrected for the amount of precipitation. The measurements are now updated daily on the dashboard. This makes it easier to see how the virus develops for a specific location. Another improvement is the fact that the figures from different municipalities and safety regions can now be compared with each other.
On the corona dashboard since begin juli shows important figures about the development of corona in the Netherlands. In addition to the sewage water figures, the dashboard also shows the number of IC admissions, positive test results and an estimate of the number of infectious people. This combination of current data speeds up the detection and control of the virus.
